Parking & Transportation

Parking and Transportation is responsible for managing all aspects of Mason’s parking and transportation operations, including permit processing, shuttles, carpool and vanpool programs, motor pools, and other alternative transportation programs.

Program Highlights

The Virtual Parking Permit Program was launched in fall 2023 to streamline the parking process for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Visit the Virtual Permit page to learn more about how it works and instructions on how to assign a license plate to a permit.

For information about various permit options and short-term parking information, go to parking.gmu.edu.

Students, faculty, and staff can take free shuttles with a Mason ID. Routes connect to regional campuses, Vienna Metro, nearby shopping centers, and West Campus parking. Schedules are available at shuttle.gmu.edu. The Ridesystems App allows users to track shuttles in real-time.

Mason Commutes is a digital platform that connects the George Mason community to ridesharing opportunities. Users may propose trips or request rides for regular commuting, school breaks, and holiday travel. The program is George Mason’s ongoing effort to reduce carbon emissions by offering more sustainable transportation options.

Parking and Transportation provides various alternative commute options with incentives to encourage the George Mason community to choose sustainable travel options. See below for a list of options:

To enhance off-campus students’ campus experience and create more opportunities for students to get involved on campus, Mason Dining and Parking and Transportation partnered to provide a bundle and saving program for off-campus students. The program provides a rebate on selective reserved parking permits when students purchase a $350 or $500 Dining Dollar meal plan. To learn more about the saving details, visit the Park+Dine page.
