In June 2025, George Mason University announced Chartwells Higher Education as the new food service provider for all campus dining, retail, and catering, beginning July 1, 2025. As a result of this transition, some current dining and service operations may be affected. Updates on service changes and transition plans will be shared on this page. Please check back regularly for the latest information.
Chartwells brings a fresh vision for campus dining, including innovation in technology and convenience, sustainable practices, and expanded food variety—all aligned with George Mason’s values. You can expect to see new brands, renovated spaces, and a close partnership with local restaurant group, Thompson Hospitality. More details will be shared as they become available in the coming months.
The Starship robots will continue delivering meals across campus under the new dining contract with Chartwells. You will also be able to continue ordering for pick up through the Starship App. Please note: Most on-campus retail restaurant delivery services will be unavailable from June 30 to July 11 due to a transition period. Panera, Panda Express, and Manhattan Pizza will remain available during this time.
Fan favorites such as Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, Panda Express, Panera and Dunkin’ will remain on campus. You can also expect exciting new additions and enhancements over the next year and beyond.
Meal plans purchased through George Mason will continue to be valid and honored under the new dining provider. You’ll continue using your Mason ID card as usual to access your meal plan.
Dining services will remain available throughout the summer and into the fall with minimal disruption. Orientation meals and fall move-in dining will operate as planned. Some hours or offerings may be adjusted during the summer transition period, but core dining services will remain open. More details will be communicated as they are finalized.
George Mason will continue its nationally recognized allergen-friendly dining program, including access to a campus dietitian and personalized support for dietary and nutritional needs.
We’re making George Mason’s dining halls safer and more inclusive—now 100% peanut- and tree nut-free! That means no peanuts, no tree nuts, and no products containing them will be purchased or brought into our kitchens. It’s a major step forward in supporting students with food allergies and building a more welcoming dining experience for all.
Catering will continue to be available through the transition. Chartwells will begin offering catering services starting July 1, 2025. More information about menus, ordering, and contact details will be shared soon to ensure a seamless experience for your events. All events currently scheduled will be performed by the Chartwells on campus catering – Crafted 1972. A new and improved Catertrax website will officially launch July 15, 2025. Any catering inquiries can be emailed to [email protected].
Chartwells has committed to interviewing any current Sodexo team members who are interested in staying at George Mason. Many have already accepted offers.
